Our
tumbling classes are 60 minute lessons determined by age and
tumbling ability. Ages 6+ without tumbling experience need to
be enrolled in the White Band Class. Ages 6+ with tumbling
experience need to call (803)951-2090 or e-mail our director at
ucandt@palmettoathleticcenter.com for a tumbling evaluation.
ASAP Tumbling Training Program
The ASAP Tumbling Training Program uses an original system for
defining the tumbling program and progress of the tumbler. It is
similar to that which is found in martial arts. Beginners
receive an Elastic Band to wear. There are 3
spots on the band that will get holed punched when the matching
skill is obtained.
Once the child has received all three tips, they are awarded the
next band. The entry level begins with the most elementary of
tumbling skills and follows a logical progression toward more
complex skills. Along with the main skills of each band color,
there are additional primary skills that the students learn and
work on every class including handstand, bridge, walkovers, and
more. The students will have to perform these primary skills
along with the major skills to advance to the next band color.

Stations:
There are three major rotations per tumbling class-Trampoline,
Running Tumbling, and Standing Tumbling. Each week a class will
start at one of the three events and proceed to the next two every
15 minutes. Each major station has 3 mini-stations within them.
The tumblers will spend 5 minutes at each of the mini-stations and 5
of those minutes will be strictly with the coach. The other two
mini-stations are for working drills, additional primary skills, and
partner skills. As the tumblers progress, the drills and skills
also progress to suit their skill level. The student is expected to
master all 3 mini-stations to receive the hole-punch for that
particular event. Therefore, when a child receives their hole-punch
for each event, it is certain that the child is capable and
knowledgeable of the required skills at that event.
Curriculum Time Lines:
There is
no set time in which a student is expected to progress. However, a
minimum of 10 weeks to progress to the next band is to be expected.
Please keep in mind it ultimately depends on two major elements: our
ability to coach effectively and the child's natural talent and
ability. Some students will learn quicker and some slower.
Advancement:
We give hole-punches on the bands when we know that children can
perform the required skills. Though currently there is not a
specific time set aside for band testing, we monitor achievements
continuously during class by having stations with the coach
assisting the student on the main skill the child is trying to
achieve. When we see that a child can perform the main skills, we
simply ask them to perform the other primary skills and thereby
identify the need to give the hole-punch. Once the child receives
all three hole-punches, they are rewarded the next color, and will
likely be ready to move to a more advanced class.
Tracking
Progress:
We
keep track of hole-punches and band colors on our computer system
and on our rolls. As the weeks go by we can chart and study their
progress.
Cheerleading Curriculum:
We are currently in the process of developing a cheerleading
curriculum that will include hole-punches for the following skills:
stunts, jumps, and motions. The program will progress similarly to
that of the tumbling band system.
